Parking & Road Closures

Road Closures: Cabrillo Blvd. between Hwy 101 and Milpas, will be closed for our event between 5:00am and 11:30am on event day. Northbound Hwy 101 traffic should not take the Cabrillo Blvd exit. Instead continue north and take the Garden Street exit. Turn left onto Garden St. (towards the beach) and park down there. Southbound Hwy 101 traffic should also take the Garden Street Exit.

This closure causes major traffic congestion at the intersection of Milpas and Cabrillo as traffic is detoured around the closures. Try to avoid this area during these times unless you really like sitting behind a lost tourist in a Winnebago for 20 minutes. You can avoid all this by using Garden Street.

No Parking: Because of the event, there will be NO PARKING between 1:00 am and 12:00 noon Saturday and Sunday, August 22nd & 23rd, 2009 at the following locations: [View Map]
  • Cabrillo Blvd between Milpas and Channel Drive (East Beach Area).
  • The west Cabrillo Bathhouse parking lot (the transition area and event operations location)
  • Channel Drive eastbound (beach side) along Butterfly Beach in front of the Biltmore.
  • Olive Mill Rd between the Biltmore and Danielson Rd.
  • DO NOT PARK ON THE SOFTBALL FIELDS across the street from the Fess Parker Doubletree Hotel, or the fields by the zoo. You will be towed.
Gear Drop Off or Gear Pickup: Because of the road closures, there is no place to stop and drop off or pickup your event gear at the transition area. Don't bother wasting your time trying because the police will not allow you to stop. Just find a safe and legal place to park and hike it.
So... Where can I park? The is little to no parking at the event site, so plan on a short hike or bike ride to get there. We recommend that you park at the city beach lots near Cabrillo and Garden Street. Be prepared to pay up to $10 for a day's worth of parking.
Garden Street Beach Lots: Exit Hwy 101 at Garden St. Head towards the beach. On your right between the railroad tracks and Cabrillo Blvd are city parking lots. Once parked, ride your bike across Cabrillo Blvd to the bike path. Ride east on the bike path towards the Bath House event Site, a tad over a mile away.
Cabrillo Blvd Beach Lots: Exit Hwy 101 at Garden St. Head towards the beach. Cross Cabrillo Blvd into a large parking lot on the beach side of Cabrillo. Once parked, ride your bike to the bike path between the parking lot and the sand. Ride east on the bike path towards the Bath House event Site, which is just over a mile away.
Cabrillo Blvd Street Parking: You can park for free on Cabrillo Blvd. between Garden St and Milpas St. However, space is very limited and will fill up fast!
East Beach Area/Zoo Area Parking: You can park for free on the surface streets behind the East Beach hotels (Mar Monte, etc.), the Zoo, and the softball fields. These are across the street from the event site. However, this too will fill up fast if it is not already full from normal tourist traffic. Take the Milpas St. exit, head towards the ocean, turn left at Calle Puerto Vallarta, and hunt for a street parking place.
